How to play
Block Drop
Fit the pieces, clear the lines. No timer, nothing to buy.
Rules
Drag each of the three pieces onto the 8 by 8 board, or tap a piece and then a square. A piece only fits where every square it covers is empty. Fill a whole row or column and it clears. When all three are placed you get three more, and the game ends when none of them fits. There is no timer.
The board is 8 squares by 8. Under it sit 3 pieces. Put them all on the board and you get 3 more, for as long as there is room.
- Drag a piece onto the board and let go. A faint copy shows where it would land, and it turns red if it will not fit. On a phone the piece rides above your finger so you can see it.
- Or tap a piece, then tap a square. The piece goes down with its top-left corner on that square. This is the easy way if dragging is awkward, and it works with a keyboard too.
- A piece only fits where every square it covers is on the board and empty. Pieces never turn, so look at the shape you are given.
- Fill every square of a row or a column and it clears. Rows and columns that fill at the same moment all clear together.
- The game ends when none of the pieces you still hold fits anywhere. There is no timer and no undo.
Scoring: one point for every square you place, plus a bonus for each placement that clears lines. Clearing several at once pays a lot more: one line is 10, two lines are 40, three are 90, and it keeps climbing. A square that is in a full row and a full column counts once.
Keyboard: Tab to a piece and press Enter to pick it up. Then use the arrow keys to move around the board, Enter to place it and Escape to put it back.
Controls
Touch: tap anything on the board to use it. Every button and key is at least 44px tall, so it works with a thumb. The squares of a board are as big as the screen allows - on a small phone some of them are smaller than that, which is why the keys and the number pad, not the squares, are what you type with.
Keyboard: Tab moves between the controls and Enter or Space activates the one you are on. That covers the buttons the game screen always has - Pause, Restart and this page's link - as well as anything the board adds.
Pause stops the clock and freezes the board; Restart gives you a fresh one.
Scoring
Your score is the points you have when the game ends. Higher is better.
