Offline Games Checklist: On the Train | GameJar
What to set up before you are on the train with no signal, and what to do once you are there.
Train journeys are good at turning a working connection into a vague memory, usually somewhere between tunnels. This checklist stops the obvious failures, blank screens, flat batteries, loud games at a shared table, and arguments over whose turn it is.
Pro Tips
- *If the train has lots of tunnels, test airplane mode before departure and leave it on. The device will stop hunting for signal and the battery will last longer.
- *At a shared table, solo games are usually the least antisocial choice. Save pass-and-play for quieter parts of the journey.
- *Picture Logic is useful when your child wants something quiet and methodical. 2048 is useful when they want to swipe at something for a bit and not discuss it.
- *If you are using one device for two children, pick profiles first and turn-taking rules second. Reversing that order creates unnecessary case law.
- *Keep a pen nearby even if the game does not require it. Some children like to jot down ideas for crosswords or sudoku instead of saying every thought out loud.
